Skype for iPhone App Reviews

Dont patronize me with statements like "Good job", in your app. First go fix the broken functionality before getting that cocky. I use the Mac version and pay to be able to make international calls with it. I am able to call some of the contacts I have on the Mac version from the iOS version as well. But for some contacts the iOS version attempts to make a call and then immediately (2-3 seconds) fails. It is not a problem with the phone number - I can call them from the Mac version right afterwards. So the iOS app is broken. The app has an interface only its mother could love. For example, if there are two phone numbers for a contact it is not intuitive how I might pick one. Perhaps this works if I let the app see my phone contacts. But I dont trust you enough to do that if you cant even get the contacts entered directly in Skype right. Go fix your problems before you patronize users with "Good job".

I can usually deal with horrible color schemes and UI redesigns where things are moved around or re-organized. I dont like it, but change happens. This UI refresh, however, is not a simple adjustment. As other have reported, I have no way of seeing a list of my Skype contacts. Do I need to Follow them in order to see their status? Not to mention that Following means it sends your contact a "Follow Request"? If they have alrealy approved my contact in the previous version, I am certainly mot flooding work contacts with additional requests. Why doesnt the user list show up automatically? Ease-of-communication, one would think, is the core of any Skype UI refresh. Dropped and miss calls only add to the mess. I am a long-time Pro subscriber and am appalled at the pace Microsoft has managed to ruin what was once an easy-to-use communication gateway. Emojis are optional. Skype calling is not.

Simply worst update

Some of my grandkids have Android devices so I installed Skype so they can contact me with video calls. I love this app.

Good and handy tool for many years, just need to adopt to the latest version

This is the worst App update/change that Ive ever seen, since Apps were first created.

I use to love Skype but no more. Now it looks like a copy of other video chatting apps out there. I loved the blue and white simplicity. I dont need moods or select a theme. KISS!!!!!! Dont really like it now. May delete it and just stick with FaceTime. Too bad for my Android friends. Was there a management change? Did someone just finish taking an empowerment class and said "I have all these great ideas how to make it better?" I have seen this too many times with Apps. Something that is unique and has its own personality is homogenized in something that looks like every other app. So sad.

Well Skype, you have simply made what was one of my favorite apps a catastrophic failure. Once I was able to have conversations via text, video, and send images. I even got notifications when someone in the conversation responded. Nevermore, nevermore. If I send a photo, the other party can no longer view it inline. They must log in. Notifications work, but only after I have stood on my head and have achieved that perfect moment of inner peace, which happens rarely. It used to be good, but now it is like a digital paperweight just taking up space on my device. Skype is now worse that ever if thats possible! No notifications, no settings unless you talk to the old gods and the new, terrible interface (be you, Skype, be you!) And totally unintuitive! Is there a way to give zero stars!

I have only ONE request: can you make it so you can tell if someones Online or Offline... but anyways I find this app very useful and a beautiful design choice!!!!

Originally Skype was great! Loved it to death. Now its just a mess. I honestly hate the new update. To top it off Skype on mobile keeps CRASHING. Im quite tired of this happening and therefore Im going to stop using Skype until it gets better. Oh and the way Skype is now? Atrocious.

Even after changing my password it still wont recognize my login.

Skype is not improved by fancy new animated graphics. Skype is not improved by removing the ability to send chat messages during calls Skype is not improved by making any new updates incompatible with older versions Fix the call quality Fix the in call chat system Fix the bugs!!!!!!!! It must be hard for one hand to know what the other is doing when the thumb of that hand is so deeply embedded up a sunless region.

I use Skype to call Canada twice a week. Works very well and saves me a lot of money.

Before I address the title of the review, let me give my opinions on the new update. Overall, I think the new UI is clustered. Its not as easy to pick out specific details as it used to be. Also, it seems like they are just trying to mimic what Snapchat is doing. Highlights? Really? Skype should just stay on its turf and not try to compete with those other applications. Skype has always been a communication method, especially during travel, that anyone could use for free. Adding "Highlights" was unnecessary and makes it look like you guys are struggling to stay relevant. One more thing, removing mood or status messages? Why? The same goes for Online status. Why remove those two features from the app? That doesnt really make sense to me. I can see what the Developers were trying to do here but I, along with the majority of the community, liked the old UI a bit better. Performance: From my personal experience, the update seems to have sped up the app and things seem to work and run smoother overall. I saw some reviews that stated otherwise, but this was just my personal experience. DEVS COPYING AND PASTING RESPONSES: I saw that Skype had 2 stars, so I wanted to check out the reviews. I ended up scrolling through tons of reviews, and started to notice something. A Skype PM, Rene, was leaving responses on some of the one star reviews that were left. At first glance, I saw this as a good thing, as he was saying how they cared about the community feedback. Then I started to notice some of his responses were simply the same response, copied and pasted. You may wonder: Why is this a bad thing? Each review that is left is unique in its own way and contains useful information for developers to improve their product. When I see developers leaving the same response on reviews, that tells me that they dont truly care as much as they say they do. You dont need to read the review if you just have a message copied to say in nearly every response. If I was going to respond to my consumers feedback, I would write out a unique message, that is specifically made in response to the review I read. It would point out specific areas of their review and respond to them. Some people may not see a problem with this, but I do. I this as lazy and it makes them seem like they either arent always reading peoples reviews through, or they dont care as much as they say they do. Just think about it. Anyway, overall, I decided to leave three stars. Hopefully they make some UI improvements and bring back some old features to the app to make the people responsible for keeping their product alive, happy.
