Skype for iPhone App Reviews

Skype for iPhone has become completely unusable. Incoming calls from associated call in number is not usable. Most of the time, the other part cannot hear me. The UI/UX design decisions has made this app unusable.

I really do appreciate the new, updated look. Even though I did like the classic blue, white theme, Ive also fallen in love with the black & white theme. I do have some improvements that can be changed hopefully within the next update. 1st, Mood messages. I already know many have brought this up themselves, but I would also like to add my opinion. Mood messages should definitely be brought back, and also, we should be able to view others Mood messages. 2nd, our online, offline, away, DND, and Invisible statuses. We should be able to change these within the app. Other than that, all the new improvements are quite fine and interesting. Thank you for always improving Skype!

App interface is terrible - forced installations of spyware - now service is not secure and not peer to peer

I used to call and txt thro Skype but now no good

I always liked to use Skype app in iPhone, but it became impossible after this update, first they forced me to update, I had no other option. And now nothing works as it should, very slow, worst update EVER!!!!!!!

But the performance is horrendous. Not only that but the new animations only make this chat app even slower than before. I will have to force my friends to use Facebook messenger. The more you chat the slower it goes.

Skype is something I have used for a very long time on many devices, and after the new update, I actually thought it was good! I enjoyed the new freshness it had. Well, at first. I noticed a lot of bugs and it just annoyed me. The main thing I do on this app. Text. After having this update for a while, I noticed that a specific time my messages would just stop sending. Its nothing with my wi-fi nor my cellular data, because all my other messaging apps work just fine. My messages wouldnt send for more than 20 minutes. Even after deleting it and downloading it again. Also, if I were to send a message using the notification center, it would never send, until I get on the actual app itself. The photos after sending them will look blurry, until you actually press the photo itself, which, in my opinion is an unnecessary thing to have put. The photos should be the way the person sent it. The mood and being able to see when one is online or not is another thing. Being able to write my mood was something I enjoyed doing, and being able to change my online status also gives me the chance to avoid people who I dont feel like talking to. The mood was something I used to update others on where I am, and how I feel. Whether it may be a quote, song lyrics, or even a simple emoticon, it was still something I got to individualize. The notifications of getting a new message while being on the app itself, does nothing. I get messages from my friends, but never know until I get off the app and see a notification. Being able to see the notifications would help a bunch, because Skype is a messaging app. Thats what is known for. I still love Skype and will continue to use it, but will not be updating it. I like Skype I really. Its a way to keep in touch with people I dont usually hang out with but somethings I try to get on and it just crash and it does it every single time. So I have to uninstall Skype then reinstall it again. Which really gets annoying. So please fix the bugs.

IDK what the heck they were thinking when they updated this app. I use it frequently and it sure isnt an upgrade. More of a downgrade. I mean like seriously. My phone has never been so slow and useless while I use the app. Even when I try to end a call in a group chat it says it ended but its not letting me leave the call, so I have to reset the whole app and let it buffer. Second, why would they get rid of the status. I now cant put myself as away. So now every time I open the app someone expects me to answer. So I cant avoid a call without them knowing I dont want to talk. And thirdly, whats with the new symbol? Wasnt skype made with the symbol that we all know? Now they go on changing it likes its better. Well I hope theyre proud with themselves because now they have less than 2 stars. NOW WHEN I CALL A FRIEND I CAN HEAR THEIR VOICE BUT THEN IT STOPS AND ENDS THE CALL FOR ME SAYING THE CALL FAILED! WHAT IS WRONG? JUST CHANGE THINGS BACK! IS IT REALLY THAT HARD! THIS IS A DOWNGRADE!!! I CANT EVEN END A CALL WITH SOMEBODY! WHEN I PRESS END IT JUST LEAVES THE CALL PAGE! WHAT KIND OF UPGRADE IS THIS?! IF YOU WANT AN UPGRADE THAN CHANGE IT BACK TO WHAT IT USED TO BE! YOURE ALL RUINING MY SKYPE EXPERIENCE! All I can say is that I hope that sooner or later they will change skype on the phone, back to what it used to be.

How the f, pardon my French, do I save a phone number? Why were some of my other phone numbers selectively wiped out? Horrible app

At this point why even bother? There are so many other digital calling options, many with better encryption. I kept skype because I liked the call clarity compared to other apps. My friends and I used akyoe because their wireless service is sub-par. The 3 people I talked to can no longer use it as of now. You get these companies like Facebook and Instagram come in, purchase an app, then "improve" it. I liked Skype and IG before they were owned by these people. Fortunately their are other options. At this point I may just disable skype. Its useless now.

I must be in the minority, but I like the update. Havent used Skype in years but am now doing so again on the regular.

With the latest update it looks like we got emoticons back but now sending texts is incredibly slow and sometimes they just hang there forever sending for about 5 to 10 sometimes even 20 minutes before it actually goes through. This happens when Im on Wi-Fi or when on my cell plan which is unlimited. Im positive its not my cellular carrier because other applications work just fine using data. This is two updates in a row that have been a disaster for this application. Im getting somewhat frustrated and Im looking for an alternative. Thank you for the response from the developer. It is much appreciated. One thing that often seems to hang up texts is sending a photo. Weve done some troubleshooting and find out when you remove the photo then suddenly everything will go through

Loved talking to my daughter, my two year old granddaughter and her little brother. There was a little delay in the vocal. Picture was clear. Excellent way to visit and see the children.

Its horrendous I want the old skype back! Do not download youll hate it with a passion. Cant tell if anyone is online or not. BRING BACK THE OLD SKYPE!!!! JUST BRING IT BACK!

The new update on Skype is not user-friendly at all. Please either fix it or bring back the old one.

Almost useless. Cant tell who is online, does sink properly, calls itself back after you hang up....... what a mess

This redesign still needs A LOT of work. Messages are a little more stable since the update this week, but the occasional "death swirls" indicated the message you sent has not gone through make communication nearly impossible. Media, like photos or short videos send painfully slow- it feels like being on dial up. Lack of online status (or ability to change online status, or at least an option to toggle if "last seen/active") is visible is awkward. Finally, the search feature that first goes through bots, then people (I really dont want to see randoms that have a mutual contact with me), then, finally, messages is annoying. Have a drop down menus for what Im searching for (like tumblr or Instagram) or at least put the messages first.
