Skype used to be a communication app, and a good one at that—but that was ages ago. Now it seems that Microsoft wants to peddle it as a social network, and it has stripped it of basic features that were not just useful, but fundamental for a communication app. The ability to see contacts online status and to filter online users would be among the most important features, but its now gone. Instead, Microsoft is suggesting that we should post highlights of our day on Skype, to share them with our contacts. Are you kidding me? This is all its about in the end—mining users for personal data. No thanks.
Microsoft has a history of misunderstanding user experience and user needs, and this latest Skype update is no exception.
