Cant tell what type of call Im making

Some of my contacts have Skype but they dont always have an internet connection. Therefore when I want to want to call their mobile number I select their name but it starts calling them without telling me whether this is using the internet or dialling their mobile number. I use loads of apps all the time and dont know why this upgrade is so confusing. The dial icon is gone. Why?
