Skype for iPhone App Reviews

As of Today 08-09-17, I deleted my Skype on my phone. I cant send images/photos. I cant send text messages. I cant tell if people are on. The call is annoying, and sounds like an old cellular ring tone from early 2000s. The only good thing is that I noticed that theres an improvement in the video call quality.

Previous Skype was so good and easy , why you change it??? I cant see if person on Skype or away. Why make a great stuff no work???

This app updated for me in the middle of the night and I dont understand it at all. I use skype as a way to chat with my friends, but the update pretty much deleted all of my contacts and group chats I was in. Its not synced up with my desktop skype at all, in fact it wouldnt even register my password so my app and desktop skype have different passwords! I have no idea how to navigate this app anymore, and the fact that this happened in the middle of the night makes it even more frustrating. Can we please go back to the simpler skype?

I dont understand why Skype completely changed everything thing about the app, I like the old version a lot better. Plz go back?

We asked to have the "status" brought back. You listened partially. Now I have a green dot showing who is available to chat but that isnt the case. The program seems to be very slow at updating to see whose available and not available. Example: 3 am I look to see whose available to chat, one contact I know who isnt available at that time shows available and it doesnt update for 15 minutes. It would be nice if we can change our own status. Id like to be able to change mine to away or available or offline or invisible. Id like to be able to see whose online without being shown as available to chat. Kinda like the invisible feature of the old Skype. Why do you show how long ago someone last viewed their Skype? That makes no sense to me. All of the fancy highlights, finds and captures features seems useless to me. I dont utilize them. The icons for contacts, videoing, calling, etc... needs to be a little bigger. They are still way to small. Time stamps for each individual message would be wonderful again. This was very useful. Seeing a "sent" message under our messages was a handy feature as well. Now I dont know if my message was sent or not. Id also like to see a feature of if the message was received and viewed by the person Im messaging. The space where you type a message at seems to only show 4-5 lines of message being sent to other person. So much wasted space still at the top and bottom of the screen.

The old layout was perfect and what Ive been used to for two years! I hope theres some way for me to go back to the old layout. Tried avoiding the auto update but it automatically did. 1 star.

I simply uninstalled it after having skype for years on my phone. I dont need another snapchat. PLEASE remove the new version Edit: I cant understand why you dont pay attention to the feedbacks. Just look at your ratings. Its been awful.

I use skype to keep in contact with my friends around the globe but after this newest update I may switch to a different platform... Pros: -the audio notification for a new message is cuter (although its more obtrusive imo) -you can send more than a single picture at a time. Although this is a feature pretty much every chat platform Ive used EXCEPT skype has had for at least a year at this point. Cons: -the settings page is impossible to find (its hidden behind two menus) -if your contacts have long names, good luck knowing when they messaged you—the new tabs aside from messages" now make it so that swiping to the side (which used to reveal the message timestamp) takes you to a new tab -the "colors" scheme is ugly (and changing your color does nothing to alter the colors of other peoples messages) and the black and white scheme is only marginally better -chat bubbles are hugely oversized now; if I didnt have a new iPhone Id imagine theyd fill my whole screen in two messages -you can no longer see online/offline status, nor can you set it. -the new "highlights" and "capture" tabs add literally nothing to the app -skype is basically trying to be some weird combination of Snapchat and Facebook messenger Major Cons: -almost anything requires at least two button presses to do. Almost as if every button has a hidden "press again to confirm" dialogue -the app randomly lags to the point that itll do nothing for twenty seconds and then suddenly try to catch back up. It seems more likely to do this while youre navigating through menus or trying to start typing a message. -the two aforementioned issues can actually combine together to create mind-numbingly frustrating behavior, like pressing "send" on a message just as a lag spike begins. At first, nothing happens, so you press it again, and suddenly the app sends two or sometimes even three replicates of your message to the chat. -calls have gotten insanely difficult to use, with calling hidden behind menus -contacts are ridiculously difficult to find if you dont already have a recent, active chat theyre in -the app doesnt communicate well with autocorrect. When something gets misspelled and underlined in red, tapping the word to bring up possible fixes instead just highlights the word and nothing happens. This is an issue with ONLY Skype, as no other app on my phone—local apple app or otherwise—does this. All in all, this is the absolute *WORST* update to Skype Ive witnessed. Avoid updating if at all possible. I, personally, will be researching alternative platforms. UPDATE: most of this review stands, although now theyve re-added the ability to see other peoples online status in individual conversations (though not in group conversations). We still cant affect our own status, nor did this update fix the integration issues with autocorrect. Also this update did absolutely nothing to address how slowly the program runs now, and oddball behaviors due to extreme program lag are still common.

Its still cluttered and a bit difficult to deal with. Maybe make it possible for us to customize font size and such? Im also not getting notifications when somebody messages from a computer or such.

I accidentally updated all my apps on my phone one day and finally updated skype despite vowing never to do so after this new layout came around and I heard how terrible it was. I knew it would be an absolute mess because my boyfriend had done it and after drooling over its aesthetic, realized there were so many more bugs and annoying issues with skype. Why not fix the pre-existing ones than adding more? Now I cant make another call while in a skype call without it hanging up rather than going on hold. Ongoing calls also take longer to load up after Id just been on another app. People thought skype was bad, and I was always one to defend, but now I have to agree. Step it up, your ratings are so low. Im trying to be loyal to skype but this is ridiculous.

The color scheme is fresh and minimalistic. Unfortunately the usability of what should be a very straight forward app fell off a cliff with this update. All I want from this app is to call a contact either via Skype or on their regular phone. The latter is almost impossible. Gone also is the option to add a phone number to a contact. Even the fonts and icons are punitively small and irresponsive.

Are you serious with these updates? GO BACK TO THE ORIGINAL!!

Skype was already mediocre, at best, when it came to making phone calls. Messaging was okay despite the fact that it may take days to get a notification of a message. This new version of Skype is on a whole new level of bad. First of all, it "upgraded" to this version without my consent or desire to do so. Secondly, I lost all of my Skype contacts when that happened and lost all chats that were previously there. I also had to go through the process of resetting my account. Thirdly, as a young, tech-savvy person, I find this new version incredibly confusing and difficult to navigate. All of the previous simplicity of Skype is gone. Even something as simple as setting a profile picture is a challenge because it wont let you adjust the image you choose. Im not sure why they thought we needed yet another social media outlet when thats not what anyone uses Skype for. I will be deleting the app and using something else.

I have been calling a telephone number of a non-Skype Subscriber. However, the new version of Skype does not give me the ability to edit it and enter a name for the number. This is a big problem for me. Thank you. Elias

New Skype app dont have any option to choose which number i want to use Skype call, it just force me to call to my friend Skype only, not a phone number. I know my friends have Skype account, i can call them for free. But i want to call his office number in my contact, why this option has deleted.

@Everyone, lets not just leave reviews! Low reviews dont seem to give Microsoft a lesson, they keep yada-yada-ing in changelog. WE MUST SIMPLY STOP USING SKYPE: **THAT** will give them a sign they are on the wrong path with the new user interface!

If I wanted a Snapchat-like app, I would have downloaded Snapchat. This new version takes away from the simplicity of previous versions (which is what I preferred). At least if this is the way youre headed, perhaps offer a scaled down version or business version that isnt so tedious to navigate. Get rid of the cutesy and bring back the option to select ALL the original statuses and make it easier to update your mood and status. If I didnt need to have this on my phone for work, it would be deleted.
