Skype for iPhone App Reviews

I dont like the new skype one bit. I have a monthly subscription to be able to call Italy and they ant hear me and I can hear them on speaker! What the hell! .

Update: Skype has been virtually unusable the last few days. Its constantly disconnecting, and messages are constantly scrambled and out of order. The most important part of this? Its completely buggy. Nothing seems to work like its supposed to, and Im surprised the app hasnt full on crashed yet for me. It freezes enough to call it a common occurrence. Skype is my main form of communication with several people. It was simple and easy to navigate... With the new update came a level of unnecessary complexity. Its clunky, even if meant to look streamlined, and horrible to have to navigate quickly and easily.

In the past I thought that skype was a 5 star app that didnt just follow the crappy trends at which social media was moving at, with this latest update it basically shot its self in the face with all the crap at every other app already has. Skype has been my go-to app for voice chatting my friends and up until recently was on par with discord and TS3, being simplistic and just user friendly.

Im more or less satisfied with the app. Its worse than in the beginning but still quite usable

Ive used Skype for a few years now and the most recent makeover of the app takes some getting used to but its getting to be more user friendly feeling. It was such a drastic change from the old interface before Microsoft bought them. If youre new it probably will be very easy to use and seem very updated.

Wow. Forced to "update" from Skype app that mostly worked great and looked elegant (adult) to an abomination that looks like an app for little children. Embarrassed to open it. Why did you remove the status feature? Have you also forgotten much of your user base is an adult and even business demographic? How may I revert back to the last version? Honestly, this new update version is such a disaster, we are seeking another program for our communications. What a shame to ruin Skype, and greater upset that you forced it upon us. 5 stars if the plan was to totally ruin a longstanding decent program.

MS screws up with the app over and over again. After this update Skype is unusable. 0 stars.

iPhone 6s and 7 with latest updates: No calls(thru LTE or Wi-Fi), no notifications, no actual status of contact, nothing... Skype become worse and worse after Microsoft bought it. I would like to rate it with NO star at all.

Its a good app with a high video quality IF you have a high speed internet.

I hate this new UI and will never like it because: 1: It purposefully makes placing a call very difficult. Accessing your phone book button is almost hidden and once you get there you have to scroll through all of the contacts (no alphabet on the side). Even after you place a call, in the history it will show you the actual phone number not the person (like before) and who remembers all the phone numbers you have in your phone book? 2: Places features at the front I do not care about (like groups and camera). From what I can see here, almost nobody cares that much about them too. 3: Even if everybody here tells you that it absolutely hates the UI and what you did to Skype, you have the impudence to say you are listening to what users are saying... and keep improving the stuff nobody cares about?!!!! So, either somebody at Skype does not have the humility to admit he/she made a terrible mistake, or (which could be worse) it is made like this on purpose to achieve some marketing and business "requirements" with complete disregard to what users need. I currently pay Skype to make international calls to landlines and mobile numbers and because Skype offers the cheapest option, I am still stuck with them. However, the second Viber offers a comparable price option I am going to be gone... and will never come back!!!! Skype used to be much simpler and in spite of missing some "nice to have" features, it used to be a solid app that did one thing well- you could use it for calling, now I do not what the mane purpose of this app is... to be like Facebook, Snapchat, Google +???? The way I feel is like this: You are selling me a service which you make super difficult to use (and I know why), but make something super easy to get to, which I will be able to use even if I did not pay for it ???!!!! Are with your right minds???

Good app only problem is that the emojis are crimge

I used to use skype, it was clean and smooth, and I used it to talk to my friends all the time. Now its just not good, its slow, the layout is so cramped and worse, and you cant see many messages all. They recently made it so you can see who is active again, but its still sooooo much worse than the old one. Microsoft is screwing us over with this. Im trying to get it to downgrade, but I am not sure how. Just so much worse than the original

Whoever designed the new user interface should be fired on the spot. This is one of the most horrible interfaces Ive ever seen in my life. Im almost ready to give up Skype just because of the awful UI.

This version is TERRIBLE!!!! Its counterintuitive and had lost some functions like DELETE contact or call history. Dumbass app.

The program used to be a fantastic one it no more. All its advantages are being slowly taken away and other programs are catching up. For example it is no long user friendly, its free call service is less reliable and the quality of its paid service is average. The latest GUI change was the straw the broke the camelback. Not easy to navigate at all. You almost need a course to use the app!!!

I had to create a new account through microsoft and lost my old account ???? horrible

When I was trying to check my Skype it just updated and installed, but when I tried to chat with my friend. ALL of my contacts erased!!! Skype should have never updated at all! I cant even sign back in anymore because it logged out in me by force!!! Are you serious?!?! Whod want this?!?! Thanks a lot Microsoft, you screwed me and my friends up big time!!! ?

this is it Skype Im completely done with you your new update was the last straw and now me and my friends are using tango which is just like the old Skype its great

Skype started off as a way to use the net to make phone calls, then it became an early leader in the video call market. In recent years they have encountered competition from Facebook, Google, and other quarters. Further, Skype has been evolving within Microsofts ecosystem, sharing contacts and whatnot. With this update, Skype feels less like an internet phone than it does a full-on messaging app like Facebook Messenger that has calling and video as features. I personally love it. Early reviews of the new update were quite harsh, and with this iteration, a number of the complaints were addressed. Sharing bugs have been fixed and you can now share from Apple Photos to Skype using the iPhone sharing system. You still cant share from OneDrive for iOS to Skype, though, and I was unable to share a podcast episode from Apples Podcasts app to Skype. New themes have been added, including one that has blue and white coloring that a number of people missed. (I personally loved the new colored theme), and online statuses are more visible (could still be even more visible and able to be toggled, though). There will always be some who resist change, but Skype still does everything that it did before, plus the new capture window and highlights, which Ive actually found myself using. Skype is now the most versatile communications app out there. Its supported on more devices than just about anybody else. WhatsApp has no iPad version. Messenger and Hangouts force you to use a browser on a desktop. KiK, Snapchat, and Instagram are phone only. iMessage loses most of its power if you arent talking to an Apple product. WeChat loses most of its power outside China. ooVoo has become some kind of specialized story maker thats incomprehensible unless you want to make video chains. Skype is on all iOS platforms, Android, Mac, Windows, and even Linux. Plus its bundled wth Windows 10, so everybody has a Skype account, even if they dont know it. I know people who are used to Skype just as a video platform and used in business contexts might not like colors, stickers, highlights, etc, but really, Skype does everything it did before and a whole lot more. Give it a chance. Its the only app youll ever need. Incidentally, I want the new Skype on my iPad, folks. I mentioned Skype is on every platform, but the new update isnt on iPad. This is a great new direction. The new contacts are great. Want to Skype someone? Just Skype them! No need to hunt them down and mess with invitations! There is a lot of good here. I hope Microsoft and Skype Communications keep going with this.

Highly confusing and unfriendly user interface. They just totally destroyed it with latest release.
