Skype for iPhone App Reviews

Why? Terrible design. Cant see status when typing to someone. Says last connected 2 months ago when that isnt true for myself or my contexts... just terrible regret updating it.

After the update I can no longer use this app. Ive used skype for years but after this update I cant even see what contacts are available or away, online or offline. That alone makes this app useless. I dont understand why you would change such a successful app. If it aint broke, dont fix it. You broke it!!

But it is not. Its very functional on my end and I actually like the change. The only thing I have a complain about is that "location" button. I keep pressing it by mistake when I just want to send the message through. Its in the wrong spot. Another reviewer had mentioned this too, so take note, Skype developers. Once that gets moved to another spot, Ill be all happy about this update, would happily rate this 5 stars.

That is good to update skype but i have one problem in my contact list i cann see contacts to see status, mood and mabye update again. I love skype but now i feel myself very uncomfortable.

They ruined it with the full Skype update but at least it works properly now.

Skype started off as a way to use the net to make phone calls, then it became an early leader in the video call market. In recent years they have encountered competition from Facebook, Google, and other quarters. Further, Skype has been evolving within Microsofts ecosystem, sharing contacts and whatnot. With this update, Skype feels less like an internet phone than it does a full-on messaging app like Facebook Messenger that has calling and video as features. I personally love it. Early reviews of the new update were quite harsh, and with this iteration, a number of the complaints were addressed. Sharing bugs have been fixed and you can now share from Apple Photos to Skype using the iPhone sharing system. You still cant share from OneDrive for iOS to Skype, though. New themes have been added, including one that has blue and white coloring that a number of people missed. (I personally loved the new colored theme), and online statuses are more visible (could still be even more visible and able to be toggled, though). There will always be some who resist change, but Skype still does everything that it did before, plus the new capture window and highlights, which Ive actually found myself using. Skype is now the most versatile communications out there. Its supported on more devices that just about anybody else. WhatsApp has no iPad version. Messenger and Hangouts force you to use a browser on a desktop. KiK, Snapchat, and Instagram are phone only. iMessage loses most of its power if you arent talking to an Apple product. WeChat loses most of its power outside China. ooVoo has become some kind of specialized story maker thats incomprehensible unless you want to make video chains. Skype is on all iOS platforms, Android, Mac, Windows, and even Linux. Plus its bundled wth Windows 10, so everybody has a Skype account, even if they dont know it. I know people who are used to Skype just as a video platform and used in business contexts might not like colors, stickers, highlights, etc, but really, Skype does everything it did before and a whole lot more. Give it a chance. Its the only app youll ever need. Incidentally, I want the new Skype on my iPad, folks. I mentioned Skype is on every platform, but the new update isnt on iPad. This is a great new direction. The new contacts are great. Want to Skype someone? Just Skype them! No need to hunt them down and mess with invitations! There is a lot of good here. I hope Microsoft keeps going with this.

Why did you guys remove it? That feature is essential to the app.

Dear Skype, the newly upgraded version is extremely difficult to navigate. You wiped out my contact list and I need to start over. This is rather painful. The new version is more obsessed with color and chat than what I used the app for. Dont like it at all.

Im liking Skype more as I use more. Theres a couple things that are a little annoying but for texting, video and voice calls its pretty nice. Im sure the progress will continue and itll become more refined as time passes. Give it a try and let it grow on you.

The recent updates made some needed improvements, however I would like to see a few things added. For the phone version there needs to be a way to change your status to online, away, offline, etc. Also the computer download always to translate into different languages or see what someone wrote transited fur you. This would be useful on the phone version of Skype as well.

The app version on my phone is extremely good; the image and audio quality is better than the laptop version.

Why did they change the layout? Now that Skype looks completely different and has different sounds and everything there are so many glitches and bugs. There was no point to this update. I miss the old Skype and how much easier and simpler it was. Now its glitchy, laggy, slow, and more confusing. The new call sound is even more annoying than the old one. I almost want to completely stop using Skype and go to something else unless they change it back or fix it completely. Ive had to redownload Skype five times in the past two days because it will crash when I open it. Skype doesnt need to be like a social media website. It should be a simple place to call friends, families, and co workers, etc. Its basically unusable now. The app is so different it doesnt even feel like Skype anymore. It feels like a terrible boot legged version of Skype you can get on the internet. I think I am going to completely switch over to something else if I can. The apps that used to be worse than Skype are now better.

I updated and it looks fancy, but settings for most things are gone! Its hard to see whether one appears as online or not, and one cant see if contacts are online or not... for the latter, Skype has released a new update, but it allows to see online contacts only under chats and not under contacts. Along with this, its impossible to have phone (non skype) contacts appear under contacts as before; they are now in some secret realm of my account that I cant even reach... they just vanished, which is super annoying for us users of skype as a phone equivalent. This, plus the recent removal without warning of all support to freetalk devices for Skype phone numbers, and personalized voice mail messages have left me considering cancelling my phone and subscriptions with skype. Hope those services will actually be implemented soon again!!!

If it aint broke, dont fix it. Terrible update, went from simple messaging app to Facebook-Instagram-Snapchat-Tumblr wannabe. After nearly 10 years of sticking through it, this latest update takes the cake.

Changed my review from 5 to 1 star aa Almost everything is terrible now. Cheesy Snapchat ripoff, horrible dancing graphics and fundamental things I used on Skype are gone. Plus the added advantage of horrible call setup experience and its especially great to have music from another app magically appear in a call.
