At least the old Skype was usable. Nobody needed 27 swipe gestures and a selfie camera.
New updated version is BAAAAAD Skype doesnt even show in Notifications settings,no way of saying who is online, calling is weird. Older version was much better! UPDATE: After reinstalling skype on my phone, notifications are back. And latest update brought back "online" green circle. So it is closer to better old version!
I wish I could go backwards. Interface is crippled and doesnt work right. All my chats and contacts are missing. The august update is not any better. Squiggly lines are annoying
The online stats lights show, but there is no way to set your own status. This was not an improvement at all. The UI is still bad. Too many buttons to push for simple tasks. I cant call another skype user and we both have iphones 7s with updated Skype as Itunes reports it. You can dial and it drops imediately. With every update, they try a bandaid and it screws something else up. Microsoft wake up and give us the old version back.
Skype is getting worse with every major update. I am not even going to mention constant interface redesign just for the sake of the change. Core functionality is being taking out to the point of app is becoming unusable. For example, I have phone numbers stored under each contact along with Skype ID. On the desktop app if I cant reach a contact via Skype, I can choose to call the phone instead. This ability is now taken out of iOS app. I can only make Skype voice and video call for that saved contact. I suppose I can make a separate entry with the phone number, but I see no point in making a mess of my contact list. I disabled automatic updates on my Mac so I can keep the old desktop version for as long as I can, but knowing that at some point the old version support will be disabled, its time to move on to another platform.
I have loved using skype over other messaging apps for years now because it was minimalistic, clean, and easy to navigate. Nothing too fancy, but exactly what I needed to communicate, whether it be with friends, professors, or peers. This latest update makes it frustrating to use the messaging, with its overly glamorous color schemes layout. I cant use any of the features I use on the day to day, like status and mood. Because you dont swipe to see timestamps and the font is huge, I can only see a couple messages at a time. And whats worse, its slowing my phone down and taking up space. I dont even like it and its dragging me down! I will definitely be switching to discord if improvements are not made soon. A note: adding emojis to messages and stuff is super cute. A lot of the ideas in this update were good, but they are overriding the reasons we love this service so much. Edit: Much better with the new update! I moved my rating up two stars. I love the dark theme, and Im glad I can see whos active now. I still wish I could see more messages at a time and edit stuff like status and and mood, though. I havent been able to see if the performance is better yet (the last update would not send messages or tell me when I received them, and crashed the app often) but Im hoping it has improved.
Why does the top nav bar take up like 20% of the screen? Cant you just put a green or red circle next to the name to show if they are online or not instead of writing it all out?
Please make my picture in the video call larger that I can see myself when I am talking to someone, like it used to be. Thanks.
Skype started off as a way to use the net to make phone calls, then it became an early leader in the video call market. In recent years they have encountered competition from Facebook, Google, and other quarters. Further, Skype has been evolving within Microsofts ecosystem, sharing contacts and whatnot. With this update, Skype feels less like an internet phone than it does a full-on messaging app like Facebook Messenger that has calling and video as features. I personally love it. Early reviews of the new update were quite harsh, and with this iteration, the majority of the complaints were addressed. Sharing bugs have been fixed and you can now share from the iPhone sharing system. New themes have been added, including one that has blue and white coloring that a number of people missed. (I personally loved the new colored theme), and online statuses are more visible. There will always be some who resist change, but Skype still does everything that it did before, plus the new capture window and highlights, which Ive actually found myself using. Skype is now the most versatile communications out there. Its supported on more devices that just about anybody else. WhatsApp has no iPad version. Messenger and Hangouts force you to use a browser on a desktop. KiK, Snapchat, and Instagram are phone only. iMessage loses most of its power if you arent talking to an Apple product. WeChat loses most of its power outside China. ooVoo has become some kind of specialized story maker thats incomprehensible unless you want to make video chains. Skype is on all iOS platforms, Android, Mac, Windows, and even Linux. Plus its bundled wth Windows 10, so everybody has a Skype account, even if they dont know it. I know people who are used to Skype just as a video platform and used in business contexts might not like colors, stickers, highlights, etc, but really, Skype does everything it did before and a whole lot more. Give it a chance. Its the only app youll ever need. Incidentally, I want the new Skype on my iPad, folks. I mentioned Skype is on every platform, but the new update isnt on iPad. This is a great new direction. The new contacts are great. Want to Skype someone? Just Skype them! No need to hunt them down and mess with invitations! There is a lot of good here. I hope Microsoft keeps going with this.
problem 1: the design is horrid problem 2: you cant change your status problem 3: you cant adjust the size of your profile picture problem 4: why did you try to be like discord
I cant believe it. Unusable. The end of Skype.
Its the cheapest way that I have found to be able to stay in contact with the US while Im abroad.
Is really good has good picture and is really updated and improved
Still cant send SMS to my family phone numbers, very disappointed... I just dont understand why would you "improve" ur app ... it was perfect.
It feels like several major issues have been improved, but only partially. For instance, I can now see peoples statuses, but I still cant change my own. All of my contacts have been restored, but my histories with said contacts have not been. Its nice to see a little improvement. But it would be nicer still to have issues fixed all the way instead of only halfway...
Skype was always easy and fast - best app to communicate online! Now it is slow, introduced new features that nobody needs and is missing on-line status! New version - still horrible! For many (if not all) of us Skype was always a great communication tools - why introducing "social" features by breaking the main functionality? Overall usability is horrible, but, I guess this is a new strategy of getting new user base, but could you think about the following: - Online status is now back, still small and difficult to see. - Search is extremely slow - make it fast again by giving an option to search my contacts only! - Some of my contacts have multiple phone numbers - only one is shown!
NO ONE USES SNAPCHAT HIGHLIGHTS! The old skype was waaaaaayyyy better than this wannabe snapchat. Like changing online status.
Im not having any problems! Save a few distortion effects. But thats mostly due to connection! So all in all... pretty good app!
Still gay there should be an option to go back to the original Skype
